About Sarah
About me…hmm?
Well I will just give a quick overview, as quick as I can anyway.
I was born in Toronto and raised in surrounding areas, moved to Salmon Arm in 2000 where I attended Jr and Sr High school. As soon as I graduated I got the heck out of dodge and moved to Kamloops to go to University. I finished a two-year diploma program as a Child and Youth Care worker ( not daycare, more social work with kids.) I met Sean middle of first year, and we got pregnant just before I finished second year.I worked out of my field until Aiden was born, took maternity leave, and then worked retail again while we had our Foster son as social work by day and social work by night was not something I thought I could handle. We decided I would try to take a course in Vancouver on ASL and Deaf Studies. It was something I had always been interested in but too scared to try, but Sean being from Vancouver and Aiden being born Deaf was the kick in the pants I apparently needed.
I have just returned from the program all full of knowledge and dying to share it with the world. Unfortunately I am still looking for work using my education and in this community, it is not easy. I work as an in-home support worker for a man who is a quadreplegic part time, and for my other time I am working on some Deaf Awareness projects and maybe trying to start my own community program, working with families with deaf children and educating them about their options and the great many things about Deaf Culture and ASL.
Being a mom is the best thing ever, being a fiancée is the second best, and being a headstrong professional that doesn’t mind stirring the pot third best!
